Toronto Spartan Volleyball League (“TSVL”) values sportsmanship and fair play. The league expects certain standards of conduct during league play nights.

TSVL and all of its members expect that members of the league will:

• adhere to TSVL policies
• play all games honestly
• conduct themselves respectfully on and off the court
• admit ball and net touches and other fouls when officials do not see them
• exercise officiating duties impartially and to the best of their abilities
• share in equipment responsibilities as assigned
• respect the privacy of members of the league.

TSVL does not condone unsportmanlike behaviour. Sanctionable offences on the court are described in the FIVB Handbook, and TSVL follows the prescribed international sanction scale. Specifically, with respect to TSVL and game sanctions that may be imposed:

"Rude conduct" warranting a yellow card includes:

• throwing or pounding a ball in disgust at the end of a rally
• expressing contempt for a call after the call has been clarified to both captains
• refusing to shake hands with opponents after a game (unless there is a medical exemption)
• littering the court or gym space
• any other behaviours described in the FIVB Handbook as "rude" behaviours

"Offensive" conduct warranting a red card and disqualification from the game at hand includes:

• mouthing off to, or swearing at, any official before, during or after a game
• deliberately blocking the way of an official or player in an attempt to confront the individual
• any other behaviours described in the FIVB Handbook as "offensive" behaviours

"Aggressive" conduct warranting yellow and red cards, and expulsion from the gym for the remainder of the day includes:

• physical confrontation, implied or executed
• deliberately throwing a projectile that hits a player or an official
• violation of TSVL's substance abuse policy
• any other behaviours described in the FIVB Handbook as "aggressive" behaviours
