Welcome to the 2011-2012 TSVL Season

Welcome to the 32nd season of the Toronto Spartan Volleyball League (TSVL), Canada’s largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer (LGBTQ) single-sport organization. We look forward to seeing familiar faces in the TSVL and are also excited to welcome a number of new members. As always, I know we can count on our returning members to help support the transition of new members into the League.
The lead up to this season has been difficult for us. Both the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) changed some of their processes for securing gym permits. Although the TDSB worked with us to secure as many permits as possible, the TCDSB was not as co-operative. The result was the League losing a permit at a TCDSB school on Tuesday night, and, ultimately, us having to turn away a number of competitive teams.
The 3-year plan that the TSVL Executive Committee put in place in 2009-10 has helped to grow the League, both in size and involvement. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where securing gym permits has become an issue. As such, the Executive continues to explore options for more gym space to keep up with the demand. We certainly welcome any support from our membership, in the way of contacts, connections or advice, to help support our permit applications and/or secure additional venues for our members. If you think you can help, please contact a member of the Executive.
Although we are limited by the number of permits granted to the League, we have not limited what we are offering our members for the 2011-12 season. In addition to regular league play, members will enjoy tournaments, development sessions and more social events this season. We have even increased the number of partners participating in the TSVL’s member-benefits program, giving you an opportunity to enjoy great services at a reduced rate.
As always, we value your feedback and suggestions, so we invite you to get to know your Executive Committee and send us an e-mail – we’d love to hear from you!
We look forward to another great season and your contribution to fostering a positive, safe, fun and social environment for which this League is known.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I wish you all a safe and fun season with the TSVL!
Sincerely,
Eddie Coleman, President
