The Executive

The TSVL is run by a nine-person volunteer Executive Committee voted on by league members annually at the Annual General Meeting. All registered TSVL recreational players and registered competitive players/coaches are entitled to vote in elections and to run for any Executive position.

The 2007/2008 Executive are:
Ariel Vente - President
Dan Thimot - Vice President
Steve J. - Secretary
Michael K - Treasurer
Todd D. - Rec Division Director
Qui T. and Tim Connolly - Competitive Division Co-Directors
Eric Holmberg and David Sydney-Cariglia - Social Co-Directors

Persons having legal dealings with the league, such as sponsorships and other contracts, are advised that our standard practice is to have TWO Executive signatories, and to list all contracts under "Toronto Spartan Volleyball league" and to conduct all financial transactions as "TSVL". No persons other than the Executive are authorized to make representations on behalf of the league or to represent TSVL in other organizations.

Recreational League Captains

Captains in the Thursday recreational league are chosen by the TSVL Executive based on abilities as players, coaches, referees, teachers and motivators, and on their track record of working with novices to improve skills in an environment that is supportive and fun. Every recreational captain in the last several years has played in TSVL's Competitive league to gain experience in a variety of on-court, off-court, tournament-play, officiating and coaching roles. Indeed most teams in the Competitive league make it a point to help to develop future captains in support of the rec league. It is this symbiotic relationship between the competitive and recreational leagues that ensures the current and future success of TSVL.

Technical Clinicians

The recreational league schedules 3 Player Development Nights in the Fall and 3 in the Spring, during which Competitive league players and other clinicians volunteer their time to help the captains coach their players. The competitive league also runs technical clinics to help teams prepare for tournaments, and sets aside a court on a different night for optional (extra-cost) practices and drills. Referee clinics are conducted at various times during the year by Volleyball Canada certified referees within the league on a volunteer basis - all referee clinics are free-of-charge for any registered member of TSVL.

Volunteers

TSVL cannot operate without a large number of volunteers. Events during the year that require the help of volunteers include player registration, end-of-season banquets and the annual tournament. Volunteers also help by conducting refereeing and skill development clinics, transporting equipment, reporting scores, maintaining the website and phone line, hosting social events, billeting out-of-town players and dealing with sponsors. Becoming a volunteer is a great way to meet people.
