Toronto Spartan Volleyball League (“TSVL”) promotes sportsmanship above all else. The goal is for our players to have FUN – win or lose – and improve their volleyball and officiating skills. All players who choose to play with the Toronto Spartan Volleyball League are required to promote and abide by TSVL sportsmanship policies.

1. Good sportsmanship means treating opponents with fairness, generosity, courtesy and respect.
2. Good sportsmanship means not retaliating or reacting in a negative way to any situation or player regardless of the circumstance. Players who exhibit retaliatory or revengeful types of behaviours will be subject to the same warnings, suspensions, ejections as an instigator.
3. Players are responsible to address any concerns with their captain during the game so the problem can be addressed immediately. Give your opponents a chance to make amends. Feedback should be given in a constructive way and received with an open mind.

If any member demonstrates poor sportsmanship during a game, the following game penalties may apply:

• The first time such infraction occurs, the player in question will be given a yellow card and the opposing team will receive a point.

• The second time such infraction occurs within the same game, the player in question will be given a red card and is suspended from the game. If an infraction is serious, this penalty may be assessed after the first time such infraction occurs.

• A third infraction will result in a combination red and yellow card. The player must leave the gym. If an infraction is serious, this penalty may be assessed after the first or second time such infraction occurs.

Notwithstanding the above, the TSVL Executive reserves the right to review the membership of any player exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct – whether during game play or not – and without regard to whether or not a penalty was assessed during a game.

The Toronto Spartan Volleyball League does not tolerate players who cannot follow the sportsmanship policy. These players will be swiftly suspended or ejected from the league.

If you experience a problem with another team or player, PLEASE address it with the other team captain immediately. If, after discussion, the team or player makes no improvements, report the details to the TSVL Executive by filing a written complaint in accordance with the TSVL Complaint Procedure.

The TSVL Executive will follow up with any complaints or concerns. TSVL may suspend players or the entire team depending on the severity of the complaint. Multiple complaints against a team and/or player may result in review of the team and/or player’s status in the league. Players or teams who are required to forfeit games or are
suspended or ejected from the league will not be offered a refund.
